James Nelon, Author, Photographer 5.0 out of 5 stars This book makes life at sea personal Reviewed in the United States on January 16, 2021
I started to read the page that placed Stella at Guadalcanal. I thought “that’s where my Dad was.” I kept reading detail about Espiritu Santo in search of Tanaka. I was drawn in to the story even more. And then I turned the page to read that the Pensacola was among the heavy cruisers severely damaged.
My Dad was on that ship. He told us that a bulkhead was all that was between him and the torpedo. He was saved by that bulkhead.
After repairs at Pearl, the Pensacola continued during the war on up through Midway to Iwo. Fortunately, my Dad got reassigned to Norfolk before Iwo.
I’m glad I’m here.
Thanks for placing part of your story where my Dad served. It made the book all that more personal.
I thoroughly enjoyed your writing. I hope Covid has given you the time, energy and space to write your next book.
